OPEN ME IF YOU CAN: A MULTI-STAGE ACCESS SYSTEM TO A ‘SMART CABINET’ OF EXPENSIVE ALCOHOL IN UK STORES

To combat the epidemic of shoplifting, supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is testing cabinets with built-in artificial intelligence and special security technology. Now, to retrieve a bottle of expensive alcohol, a visitor will go through facial recognition and loyalty card scanning to be automatically authorized to access the shelves via a touchscreen.

Freedom Case technology is developed by Indyme and is a locked self-service cabinet. The embedded artificial intelligence uses sensors to analyze human actions, the timing of access to open the lock and the nature of goods movement within the cabinet. In this way, the retailer hopes to track illegal activities in real time and reduce its losses from theft of high-end alcohol.

The retailer continues to test and implement artificial intelligence and high technology in the battle against thieves and their «natural» intelligence. Well, neural networks to the rescue!
